Here’s a rare little gem of a boat for sale. Built in Chris-Craft’s Cortland, NY Corsair Plant, this 1970 fiberglass beauty was specifically built for the exclusive Yacht/Jet Set to hang off of the stern of very large Yachts for their guest’s pleasure and sport or for ship-to-shore transport when the Yacht was at anchor. Most of these yachts would have cradles on deck for storage of the boat when the yacht was underway.
53 of these 17ft “Fish-n-Ski” Corsair’s were built and this one was number 48. Of those 53 only 12 were equipped with the 327Q engines like this one, that engine being a Chevrolet 230hp 327 cid with single 4 barrel carburetor. This boat is unrestored and nearly 100% original. Some of the Upholstery has been redone to match the original, and could use a little more to make it absolutely perfect, but it is still very good and functional. The Carburetor has been upgraded to a new Edelbrock model, but the original AFB Carb is stored away in a box for the new owner.
The running gear is ALL original, from the engine to the V-Drive, Paragon reversing transmission, the 3 blade prop and rudder. Also completely intact is the original dual through-the-transom exhaust system, the stock running lights, Teak swim step, hydraulic trim tabs, deck mounted horn and all of the original Chris-Craft safety and occupancy plaques. It comes with a custom made Bimini Top, an anchor, rope and buoy, a pair of dock bumpers, fire extinguisher, docking hook and paddle. It’s ready to go to the lake, right now!!
For power, the engine is the original and legendary 327Q. It has never been out of the boat nor has it ever been apart, and with only 317 hours on the engine since 1970, and regular maintenance, it continues to purr like a kitten… a great ride at the lake or river. To our knowledge this boat has never seen salt water. (by the way, that 317 hours translates to only an average of just over 8 hours a year over its nearly 40 years of luxurious pleasure boating life.)
This boat is not a Trailer Queen but it has been pretty well maintained. Its unique and the distinctive hull design along with the telltale Red Gel Coat with factory 10 inch White racing stripe down the middle of the deck turns heads wherever it is parked. It does have a couple of small scratches in the original Gel Coat as well as some minor gel blistering. And speaking of the “Trailer”, most of the production run of this model didn’t come with trailers since they were destined for use on Yachts, they have two built-in heavy-duty lifting rings to hoist the boat out of the water with, one on the deck and one at the transom, on the centerline. We have built a custom trailer for the boat which includes a custom fabricated fiberglass clam-shell style spare tire carrier which is mounted horizontally in the front “Y” of the trailer.
These boats rarely come on the market, so here’s your chance for a piece of Chris-Craft’s early fiberglass production history, and a low production number to boot. This boat was Way-Kool long before all of the modern high-dollar Ski Boats – way ahead of its time (Nautique, Sanger, Brendella, Tighe, Correct Craft, et all. )
